Bankruptcy Content Writer (Contract, Remote)

About Upsolve

Upsolve is an award-winning legal services nonprofit that helps low-income families file for bankruptcy for free. We do this through the first TurboTax for bankruptcy. In the last six months, we’ve relieved over $30M in debt for 500+ families. Upsolve helps more families file for bankruptcy than any other nonprofit in the United States.

Bankruptcy is a lifeline for Americans because it wipes their slate clean, improves their credit, and increases their chances of getting a job. We’ve set out to make the lifeline accessible for free to anyone who needs it. In 2018, Upsolve won the New York Times Good Tech Award. In 2019, Fast Company named Upsolve the Winner of its World Changing Ideas Award for Social Justice.

We’re supported by top funders. This includes Y Combinator, the Robin Hood Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the U.S. Government through the Legal Services Corporation, and Harvard. We’re also funded by Eric Schmidt, Vinod Khosla, Jim Breyer, and Chris Sacca.

About the Content Writer Position

We’re looking for a contract bankruptcy content writer to join our team. We aim to be the number one place on the internet for families to learn about bankruptcy. Your work will reach hundreds of thousands of families each year who are in desperate need of resources.

Our ideal candidate has experience as a bankruptcy attorney, either as a solo practitioner or as part of a firm, and is looking to move on from practicing law in favor of a new career in writing. If practicing law was less appealing to you than to your peers in law school, and you secretly dreamt of spending your time making a larger impact through your writing, Upsolve might be the exact career change you’re looking for.

Required:

  • 2+ years of experience as a consumer bankruptcy attorney
  • Strong desire to write bankruptcy content as your full-time job
  • Passion for technology, alternative legal delivery models, and making the law more accessible to low-income families

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income families through pro bono work
  • Experience as a solo practitioner or in another setting that required strong entrepreneurial instincts
  • Care a lot about working with a diverse and innovative team
  • Track record of writing a large volume of high-quality content

Compensation is competitive.
