Copy Editor – Part-time (Remote) Location: United States Department: Content Development Type: Contracted Min. Experience: Experienced Illustrative Mathematics is a discerning community of educators dedicated to the coherent learning of mathematics. Founded in 2011 at the University of Arizona, we have operated since 2013 as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. In 2016, we established a focus of our organization on creating a coherent curriculum from Kindergarten through High School. Illustrative Mathematics has partnered with Open Up Resources to write a complete mathematics curriculum for Grades 911 and independently Illustrative mathematics will create the accompanying professional development. The finished materials will be open educational resources freely available to schools for adoption and implementation. Illustrative Mathematics seeks to build a roster of talented copy editors to work on projects on a freelance, contract basis. In this role, you will work to ensure that the content of assigned projects exhibit correct grammar, punctuation, and syntax, and adhere to in-house style guidelines. In addition, you may be assigned the task of uploading content to a proprietary content management system, and verifying that material has been uploaded correctly. Copy editors report to the Editorial Project Coordinator and may collaborate closely with internal project stakeholders. Projects will be assigned based on availability and will vary in duration, but editors can expect 10-20 hours of available work per week. RESPONSIBILITIES: Copyediting and line editing web-based math curriculum content and related materials. Uploading content to proprietary content management system. Reviewing and QCing MathJax. Other duties as assigned or as related to particular project. KEY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with copy editing and line editing. Experience in editing mathematics materials preferred. Experience with content management systems Experience working with HTML Experience with and ability to adapt to in-house style guidelines. Some knowledge of MathJax or LaTeX (or willingness to learn) Attention to detail Ability to turn around assignments in a dynamic project environment (24-48 hours) Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate ideas clearly in both oral and written communication Experience with project management software (Wrike, Microsoft Project) The statements contained in this position description are not necessarily all-inclusive; additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned and requirements may vary from time to time.
