**Non-negotiable Requirement: Law degree or strong background in legal writing (i.e. legal journalism)**

Are you an attorney or legal journalist? Do you love to write? This may be a match made in heaven! The Modern Firm works exclusively with solo and small law firms across the United States to create and promote their websites. We are looking for additional freelance copywriters that can help us with some or all of these copywriting areas:

  1. Develop fresh, marketing oriented, website copy for pages on our client websites on topics including firm overview, attorney profiles, practice area descriptions, FAQs, why choose us, etc.
  2. Ongoing writing of informative blog posts related to our client’s area(s) of practice
  3. Editorial review of website page copy supplied by clients
  4. Blog writing for our own website on attorney practice management and marketing topics

About Us:

The Modern Firm, LLC is a branding, website design and digital marketing agency for solo and small firm attorneys throughout the US. In business for 20 years, we have worked with 1200+ law firms in nearly every state (still holding out for Hawaii and Rhode Island) and have a dedicated and creative team of 13 remote employees and another 10+ regular contractors. We’re headquartered out of Ann Arbor, Michigan but our team, while mostly in the midwest, is from coast (NC) to coast (WA) to coast (FL) with CO, MN, IA, and OH in between.

About Our Clients:

We work exclusively with small law firms throughout the United States. The majority of our clients are solo to five-attorney firms. We go to great lengths to screen new clients and ensure that their needs and expectations are an overall good fit for our services and approach. Most of our clients are successful and established, and are looking for a website to validate, enhance and further grow their practice. They are also typically overwhelmed with both being a lawyer and running a law firm. This is where we come in. When are at our best we are essentially serving as their outsourced web and online marketing department, taking nearly everything related to their online presence off of their plate and on to ours. When we’re successful, we are helping our clients get more fulfillment out of running their practice and enabling them to help more people and do more of what they love.

You can see writing samples here and examples of live work in our portfolio and the links below.

Requirements:

Writers must have a law degree or a strong background in legal writing (i.e. legal journalism), be self directed, and able to communicate directly with our attorney clients. You'll be supported by our team, systems and processes to help keep your assignments organized and on track. If you have search engine optimization knowledge, great, if not, that's okay too. Our marketing folks will handle the technical side of SEO so your primary concern will be creating content that captures the client's personality, is informative and on-point.

On the technical side you must be comfortable with both MS Word, Google Docs and Gmail. We use the Zoho suite of applications for project management and team chat.

Pay Rates and Schedule:

Projects typically consist of a one-time bundle of pages (i.e. for a new website) or are ongoing blogging contracts (usually 2-4 per month per website).

Our average pay rate is $90-110 per page/post (750-1000 words) based on the writer’s experience. The pay rate moves in a fairly linear fashion for content pieces that are longer or shorter.

Writers submit itemized invoices on the 1st and 15th of each month and are paid within a few business days.
