Position Description

The Path Forward Returnship at Seeq is a 16-week paid program for experienced professionals returning to the workforce after taking time off for caregiving. The program runs from January 10 - April 29, 2022. Returnships are open to those who have at least 5 years of professional experience and have been out of the paid workforce for at least two years to focus on caring for a child or other dependent. If you meet these criteria, we welcome you to apply.

Seeq’s Returnship is based on our lengthy experience with internships and offers the opportunity to enhance your skills, update your resume with new experience, and make connections with others also transitioning back to the workforce. You'll join a team environment that prioritizes inclusion, teamwork, mutual respect and positive interactions. We have partnered with Path Forward, a nonprofit organization on a mission to empower people who’ve been focused on caregiving transition back to the paid workforce.

Seeq makes data analytics software for a big market that’s often overlooked by tech companies: industrial process data. Think pharmaceutical manufacturers, wind farms, and energy companies with tons of equipment and sensors. The core of our product is a full-featured calculation engine that can perform complex math and execute machine learning algorithms on streaming time series data.

Our company was founded 100% remote and we're proud of it. We were good at remote long before COVID and will continue to be remote when COVID is a distant memory. You can work anywhere in a compatible time zone (our core hours are 8am-12pm Pacific). We use a variety of collaboration tools, like Zoom, Slack, and our homegrown Qube Virtual Office, which make us feel like we're in the same building together.

Job Description

Seeq is looking for an experienced attorney to become its second Legal hire, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. We are looking for ability and focus, not necessarily experience with all elements of a long job description.

You will be involved with a wide variety of Legal work at Seeq, and especially with contract negotiation and drafting.

You will be working with Sales Executives on Software Licenses and Services Agreements and with all parts of the company on vendor agreements.

You can find yourself working with People Ops, Finance, Software Engineering, and Customer Success, and dealing with questions from all departments.

The Chief Legal Officer will be your manager and your mentor.

Skills & Requirements

You have 5 or more years of previous legal experience, preferably in-house and in the software industry, and you have spent time away from your career for caregiving.

You have a JD and are a member of a State Bar.

You're good at solving problems quickly and efficiently.

You can draft documents in plain English, without the archaic legalisms. Don’t even think about reciting consideration!

You enjoy the intellectual puzzle of making a complex document work for Seeq, based on everything you will learn about Seeq and about drafting on the job.

You know how to balance legal risks and business needs to reach agreement while still protecting Seeq.

You’re disciplined with a high attention to detail. You learn things quickly and prefer a work environment that embraces and capitalizes on change.

You listen really well, and you know how to make your ideas be heard without turning people off.

You know how to balance life & work, and you don’t want a job that forces you to choose between them.

You want to work with a bunch of really smart people that love working together. And you want to work at a startup with lots of happy customers, good investors, and a bright future.

You will answer the following question in your application cover letter: “What makes you excited about Seeq?”
