We are searching for a Data Analytics Engineer who can confidently build and maintain quality ETL processes. This person will own a majority of the analytics data stack and work closely with the BI team to provide insights across the rapidly expanding international team at Backstage. The role requires the technical knowledge to transform, optimize and store data; as well as impeccable communication skills to document and ensure data is interpreted correctly.
 
As the Data Analytics Engineer, you will be responsible for building, maintaining and optimizing ETL processes that feed Backstage’s analytics. The BI team will rely on you to investigate python production code, read API documentation and work with developers to build an understanding of how information is specifically being collected. With this knowledge in hand, you will work with the analytics, finance, marketing and/or product teams to determine how the information should be transformed into a data model that is relevant to the business. You will need advanced SQL skills to transform data from multiple sources; and strong communications skills to clearly document and explain the final data model. There is a significant amount of analytical data infrastructure to build for a growing team, so you will need to balance priorities, meet deadlines and make sure you are investing enough time to make data models sustainable and easy to repurpose in the future.   
 
 
Requirements and Responsibilities:
  • 3+ years professional experience in a data engineering or equivalent role
  • Strong proficiency in writing advanced SQL queries and leveraging core logic skills to transform data  
  • Experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) and familiarity with a variety of databases 
  • Experience interpreting data from a variety sources from backend data to web engagement to third-party data 
  • Ability to communicate how data models should, and should not, be used for analytics 
  • Documenting processes and data structure for business users 
  • Solving your task at hand while maintaining an awareness on how you will repurpose and evolve your data models in the future 
  • Ensuring data stability with testing 
  • Building a DAG processes using dbt, Airflow or equivalent
  • Optimizing large tables in Redshift and its Spectrum service
 
Bonus:
  • Experience setting up data piping in Stitch and/or leveraging AWS Glue
  • Familiarity with modern web-based businesses and an understanding of common metrics and measurement techniques, including A/B testing
