Research, catalyze, and guide innovative solutions that enable more robust reporting and analytics across the talent life cycle. The Red Hat People (HR) team is looking for a Data Scientist to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will guide the impact of people analytics across Red Hat. You’ll specialize in data mining, modeling, and analytics to understand the effect that people-related decisions have on talent and business outcomes. You’ll need to be comfortable working with multiple datasets and software languages to perform advanced data analyses. You’ll be expected to deliver a wide range of reports and analyses, from ad hoc reports to long-term deep-dive analyses on processes and correlating datasets. You’ll participate in projects which will require collaborative partnerships with other analytics functions within Red Hat and talent program owners within HR to consult on measurement strategy, developing visuals to inform program decision making, and utilizing predictive analytics to enhance program effectiveness. Your technical skills should include experience with R, SQL, and SAS Analytics. As a Data Scientist, you will be expected to manage your projects on your own, from customer engagement and planning to operationalizing outcomes in a scalable and sustainable way.


  • Using your analytical rigor and technical skills, partner closely with cross-functional teams to identify, design, and deliver against people-related business problems for which reporting and analytics can offer actionable insights
  • Support data management activities, including consulting on data capture and management to support analytics outcomes and identification and data cleanliness issues across HR systems and processes
  • Enable and consult with end users, including managers, associates and peers on how best to understand and apply data to achieve outcomes
  • Communicate key results to senior management, peers and colleagues, and associates in verbal, visual, and written media form
  • Assist your team with reporting and analysis, including work resolving ad hoc reporting and analytics requests
  • Contribute to cross-functional analytics projects from beginning to end; build relationships with partner teams, frame and structure questions, collect and analyze data, and summarize and present key insights in support of decision making
  • Consult with project and program owners to determine key program success measures
  • Deliver HR reports to cross-functional teams and management for analysis
  • Develop and mentor team members
  • Identify organizational trends, leading indicators, and creative talent metrics

  • Postgraduate status or equivalent combination of education and work experience in data science, statistics, and reporting
  • Extensive experience with data analysis and manipulation, including the use of R or Python programming languages
  • Ability to apply statistical and predictive modeling techniques to provide targeted and actionable insights to the business
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, team collaboration, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple priorities
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Research and benchmarking skills

The following are considered a plus:

  • Passion and experience with open source software, particularly as applied to data
  • science
  • Industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology or measurement design background
  • Experience with talent data or HR
  • Experience working with HR information systems (HRIS) as key data sources
