Filecoin is not your typical product. It is: a technical protocol, an open-source software project, a cryptocurrency, a decentralized storage marketplace, and a platform. Given the complex and multi-faceted nature of the project, it is important for Filecoin to communicate the mission, roadmap, and challenges of the protocol to our communities, which includes miner, developer, researcher, investor, and storage communities, among others. We firmly believe strong communication and healthy communities will be critical for the longevity of the Filecoin Project.
We seek a Community Strategist to focus entirely on Filecoin’s significant, growing community in China, one of Filecoin’s most valuable markets. This person will cultivate Filecoin’s existing community by constructing and executing on a community strategy that specifically meets the needs of the Chinese market. Day-to-day responsibilities in this role might include managing the Chinese communications, content, and translations pipelines, corresponding with Chinese community members, driving online and offline events, and more. Week-to-week work streams might include managing relationships with community builders and contributors, designing and implementing community engagement programs, conducting community research, and coordinating with the broader Filecoin team on larger conferences, project milestones, and other significant events.
The work in this role involves facilitating two-way communication between Filecoin and the community that will be critical to Filecoin’s success. After all, we need everyone’s help to achieve Filecoin’s mission: to make the internet a more robust, decentralized and efficient foundation for all of humanity’s knowledge.
As the China Community Strategist at Filecoin, you will…
- Design and execute on Filecoin’s community strategy for the Chinese market, incorporating researched and learned best-practices into a structured, strategic community plan
- Construct and manage a sustainable, autonomous internal translation pipeline for Filecoin content, including website information, communications, and software documentation, and more
- Craft the voice of the Filecoin project to the Chinese community by synthesizing and translating project information and curating specific content for the region for distribution on local communication channels (i.e., WeChat), in line with Filecoin’s marketing strategy
- Own on-the-ground community activity in China by developing and implementing educational initiatives, events, and other programs that will evangelize Filecoin’s technology in China
- Support volunteer community ambassadors, tech and blockchain groups, universities, enterprises, and other collaborators to cultivate a thriving community in China
- Create and implement high-impact strategic initiatives that will drive developer engagement in-line with Filecoin project roadmap
- Have a pulse on the region’s sentiment around cryptocurrency and perception of Filecoin (including regulatory sentiment); report updates and recommendations to internal stakeholders
- Be a strong representative of Protocol Labs’ values, culture, and technology through the interactions you have with Filecoin communities in China
You may be a fit for this role if you have...
- Deep understanding of how cryptocurrency communities in China tend to work (primarily miner and developer communities)
- Previous experience managing communities in China (preferably open-source or crypto communities)
- Solid existing relationships and contacts in the Chinese crypto and blockchain communities throughout China
- A nuanced understanding of doing business in China via experience in business development, marketing, or community management
- Deep flexibility and creativity with the ability to adapt to fast-changing needs and prioritize work in a high-demand position
- Tact and the ability to build relationships and processes with cross-functional teammates
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin

- Experience writing documentation or producing other content to synthesize and simplify technical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience with fully remote, distributed organizations
