The Senior Billing Specialist role reports into Group Benefits Operations and Technology. This position is accountable for providing our customers with excellent customer service within our Billing Team function. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately analyzing eligibility/enrollment changes that allows the Hartford to accurately produce a customer’s list bills. This will include working with file feeds received for enrollment/eligibility changes as well as through other channels in which enrollment/eligibility changes are received.

They will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service to our customers in regards to their eligibility and enrollment changes. This individual must deliver a consistent high quality and cost effective product while following State and Federal Requirements.

Manage complex and/or high visibility cases, analyze and research risks associated with those cases’ eligibility/enrollment, and recommend appropriate measures to manage risk. Investigate, reconcile and analyze enrollment/eligibility discrepancies between company records including the bill, files received from the customer and internal eligibility/enrollment systems.

Communicate timely with the agent and internal departments to ensure discrepancies are reconciled to ensure all enrollment/eligibility changes are recorded correctly, maximize cash flow and minimize financial impact to the company. Lead and participate in broker/customer meetings to find solutions to customer issues and problems, as well as and negotiate with tact and diplomacy to find a solution that is win-win.

Mentor, coach and assist with the development of staff; review the work of others to check for quality and process consistency. Provide technical expertise to internal customers around eligibility/enrollments. Document best practice procedures.

Lead process improvement initiatives to improve productivity, accuracy and/or customer service. Identify and work with appropriate resources to address any upstream/downstream impact from process changes/modifications.

Provide customer/vendor guidance on files, data elements, file layouts, etc. to ensure correct billing.

2 year experience in List Bill and/or File Feed Billing within a group life and disability insurance environment preferred

Strong billing reconciliation, analytical skills and problem solving

Demonstrates advanced level knowledge of Group Benefit insurance products, benefits rules and contract language

Experience with Enrollment and Eligibility Rules related to group life and disability insurance products preferred.

Ability to understand multiple eligibility/enrollment changes and the impact to the bill.

Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Advanced Excel: V-Look Ups, Pivot Tables, If formulas, Complex Text Formulas, etc.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, including billing/accounting concepts that are easy to understand.

Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and skills quickly

Strong multitasking skills and customer service skills

Ability to follow data through system and know where issue occurred.

Action oriented around escalations.

Accounting degree preferred

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Strong attention to detail

This opportunity is eligible for the Remote Worker Program/Work from home. Must have flexibility to work across countrywide time zones as needed. Standard work hours 8:00 am-5:00 pm local time.
