FRN is looking for a Head of Human Resources (HHR) to strengthen and diversify our dynamic team. The HHR designs, plans, implements, and administers human resources programs, policies and procedures for staffing, compensation, benefits, employee relations, workplace culture, training, health and safety, recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and offboarding.

The HHR works directly with the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and the CSO (Chief Strategy Officer) to maintain or improve existing systems and establish new systems that support values alignment, mission impact, effectiveness, and a safe, healthy, welcoming, and supportive work environment for all team members. The HHR is a member of and collaborates with the Leadership Team to align with and implement strategic goals via human resources functions within the organization.

We have a current staff of 23 amazing, talented people. As a fast-growing organization we anticipate that in the foreseeable future, this will be a recruiting-heavy role.

Requirements

Core Responsibilities
  • Culture. Improve (continually) a values-aligned, diverse, and inclusive team culture.
  • Team Member Development. Establish, improve, and maintain systems for continuous improvement and “up-leveling” of skills for all team members.
  • Recruiting. Improve and maintain existing talent acquisition systems.
  • On/Offboarding. Improve and maintain existing systems.
  • Payroll. Improve and maintain payroll and related systems.
  • HR Administration. Improve and maintain existing HR admin systems (including PEO).


Detailed Responsibilities

Culture

  • Ensure that organizational policies are values-aligned, express multicultural competency, and “set the tone” for a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
  • Intentionally shape a sustainable, constructive, effective, and highly motivated workplace culture.
  • Document team culture expectations and useful tools for various workplace situations.
  • Hold responsibility for prompting for core team check-ins, birthday messages, meeting facilitation, creative ideas to celebrate or support team members, bonuses, and encouraging strategically placed wellness days.
  • Ensure that team members feel supported in their role and development.
  • Engage with third party facilitators or directly facilitate learning sessions for team members to elicit ideas and leadership, to healthfully surface and resolve conflicts, and to continually improve multicultural and workplace competencies.


Team Member Development

  • Ensure that team member development programs are in place for every team member and manager.
  • Periodically review team member development plans for team members with role supervisors and point out opportunities for adjustments.
  • Continually improve upon existing systems for team member development, specifically to adjust for effectiveness based on feedback, research, and best practices.


Recruiting

  • Work with FRN’s Leadership Team and role managers to develop high quality role descriptions and contractor assignments within the organization.
  • Review all role descriptions to maximize clarity of role responsibilities and FRN’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Use the organization's applicant tracking system (currently Workable) to place job ads on all relevant placement boards.
  • Manually place job ads and contractor assignments on niche placement boards and “gig” sites, as appropriate.
  • As appropriate, proactively reach out to ideal candidates that may be interested to apply.
  • Conduct “first pass” review on all applications for a given role, providing feedback on why an applicant should or should not be moved forward in the application process.
  • Collaborate with the manager of a given role to clarify which applications should be moved forward in the process and which should not.
  • Ensure FRN is proactively reaching out to diverse communities and eliminating unconscious bias in the selection process.
  • Collaborate with FRN’s Leadership Team and role managers to develop standard interview questions that strive to gain rapid clarity on which applicants should move forward in the interview process.
  • Conduct first round “screening” interviews with initially qualified candidates that make it through the “first pass” review process.
  • Utilize a standard interview, note capturing, and evaluation process that helps to ensure the best possible applicants are moved forward in the hiring process.
  • Monitor and update applications and relevant notes in our applicant tracking system.
  • Be readily available to address concerns or questions during the hiring process for both FRN team members as well as applicants to a given role.


On/Offboarding

  • Organize and update employment types documentation including full-time/part-time employees, seasonal/temp employees, contractors, consultants, and partners.
  • Review, organize, and update the onboarding procedure for each employment type.
  • Assess needed improvements and innovations to overall onboarding processes. This includes interviewing the Leadership Team for improvements they would like to see.
  • Effectively communicate processes for onboarding each employment type with the necessary key stakeholders.
  • Assess whether or not the current people working for FRN need to revisit any part of the onboarding procedure given the updates made.
  • Review and update FRN’s offboarding processes for each employment type including but not limited to final pay process & state requirements, non-disclosure agreement review, recovery of company assets, benefits documentation, exit certificate, and exit survey.


Payroll

  • Maintain and improve efficient processes for payroll and related systems.
  • Coordinate vendor relationships with payroll/PEO providers.
  • Process salary and hourly compensation adjustments.
  • Ensure hourly timecards are completed on time and verify accuracy.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and temporary employees.


HR Administration

  • Collaborate with legal counsel to develop and maintain templates for employment offer letters, independent contractor agreements, and partnership agreements.
  • Draft and implement organizational policies that provide state and federal compliance, clarity, direction, and cohesion for a growing and scaling organization.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Finance to ensure appropriate benefits allocations and programs are both in place and accurately presented to team members.
  • Collaborate with managers to confirm all personnel matters are appropriately documented in personnel files and follow-up action(s) occurs in a timely manner.
  • Monitor team member development plans and compensation reviews to ensure all team members have team member development plans and compensation reviews performed in accordance with company policy.

Experience
  • 2+ years professional recruiting experience
  • 2+ years professional experience with direct applicant sourcing
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for whole-food, plant-based eating
  • Ideally, a strong interest in health, specifically food/nutrition, bonus points for background/experience in whole foods plant-based nutrition
  • Ideally, practice a predominantly whole food, plant-based lifestyle
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in human resources, organizational behavior, workforce development, communication, leadership, or related field

Work Location

FRN is a fully remote team, with team members in multiple North American time zones. This position may be performed from anywhere, but we strongly prefer North America-compatible time zones, with a required availability from 9 am - 3 pm Pacific Time Monday through Thursday.


Compensation

Annual salary (paid semi-monthly) of $72,000 - $100,000 depending on experience, with potential performance bonuses.
