As Viamo's Human Centered Designer you love taking a holistic approach to design which puts the lives of users at the middle of the equation. In addition to the end user's needs you can also incorporate client and project needs into your designs. You are skilled at understanding the physical and digital realities users live and operate in, and then creatively leveraging our platform to bring delight and impact. You love looking for connections and learnings from multiple projects that run in parallel so that we can build strategic and powerful solutions. You appreciate the tension between the power of face to face work and the needs to operate remotely at times. You are skilled at being an in person facilitator as well as a remote mentor, providing staff members and clients with advice on how to build Human Centered Design into their projects.  You thrive when given the opportunity to lead user research, build prototypes and manage/evaluate MVPs  to the point that the project team is ready to scale your designs.  You are happy to juggle a number of different projects in different domains, countries, contexts (and languages!).

Even though international travel seems challenging at the moment - you embrace the fact that the world has changed since COVID-19 and you are ready to design with our users for these new realities!

• Work with Viamo's clients to provide design services in large multiyear projects, especially in francophone West Africa as well as other strategic regions.
• Mentor and advise other Viamo staff members to apply Viamo's design approach to their project activities both in person and remotely.
• Lead user research, requirements gathering, prototyping and evaluation of MVPs.
• Plan and carry out design discovery trips, communicate findings through reports/ presentations to both our clients and to Viamo's team members.
• Continue to evolve the designs for products, features and platform functionality that meet the needs of stakeholders and new strategic opportunities.
• Actively engage and design with client's team members as well as Viamo's own Design and Implementation (D&I) and Programs teams
• Contribute to peer-led learning and professional development within the Design Chapter
• Work independently and remotely across time zones with team members
• Be exceptionally organised in order to maximise efficiency

• 3+ years designing for users; preferably with products and services relevant in the Sub Saharan African context
• Experience with User Centered and Human Centered design approaches
• Proven track record of strong independent work that leads to results
• Experience with end users that use basic feature phones and live in technologically limited environments.
• A portfolio of design experience showing independent capabilities and initiative
• Flexibility with designs and work processes
• Professional-level communication in English. French is highly valued! 

• Experience working with tech/development teams in an Agile environment
• Knowledge of product design and development
• Ability and interest to travel internationally and relate to those in our African and Asian offices
• Experience performing Usability tests
• Additional Hobbies/ Ventures that show strong communication, empathy and design skills.
