The Legal Editor is responsible for identifying and reporting on relevant federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, case law and other legal guidance that affect ThinkHR customers and products; creating new legal content for ThinkHR products and teams; maintaining the accuracy of existing legal content in our product; and assisting customer-facing teams with escalated customer questions or needs. The ideal candidate will join our company poised for explosive growth while remaining committed to maintaining our content compliance. You will: Research, identify, and track proposed federal, state, and local labor and employment legislation and regulatory actions that have the potential to affect ThinkHR customers and products. Analyze and report on federal, state, and local labor and employment legislation, regulations, and court cases that affect ThinkHR customers and products. Create, review, audit, update, and edit legal content in ThinkHR products to ensure accuracy of information and usability for customers. Provide legal research and/or legal guidance to team members and customers when requested. This includes handling escalated questions. Must be able work well within the team, and with partner law firms (Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete), other third-party providers and customers. Create, research, and develop content as needed for other areas as directed. You have / are: Juris doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school with state Bar admittance. At least five years’ experience working in labor and employment law. OSHA and ERISA experience a plus. At least five years of experience writing HR and business content for major business publications or for in-house companies dealing with human resources matters. Excellent legal research and writing skills; experience with legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, StateNet) and familiarity with other employment-related compliance libraries (CCH, BNA, BLR, HR360, XpertHR). Ability to summarize large amounts of legal information. Basic experience working with a text editor, HTML, Adobe, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Slack. Ability to work seamlessly and collaboratively within various teams, including remotely within a virtual team environment. Ability to establish priorities, plan work, and meet required deadlines while being consistently flexible when the need to switch tasks/legal topics is required. Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Use legal skills, logic, and reasoning to identify the issues and propose solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Act ethically and in accordance with company values while considering the relative risks and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
