The Red Hat Open Source and Standards (OSAS) team is looking for an Open Source Community Manager to lead community development activities in Brno, Czech Republic. Red Hat has over 1000 associates in Brno; they have a solid internal community and presence in the local technical community and global open source software communities. In this role, you’ll work with our Brno associates, members of the OSAS team, and open source software communities within the Czech Republic. You’ll need to have experience growing in-person communities and online open source software communities to help us continue to foster the Red Hat community as well as our efforts in the more global open source software communities in Brno. This position will require some travel, primarily within Europe and occasionally to North America or Asia.


  • Work with internal stakeholders, including Brno Red Hat University initiatives, Brno leadership council, and engineering teams to define Red Hat’s plans for the Red Hat Brno community as well as plans for their involvement in local and global open source software technologies
  • Participate in the global strategy for a series of large, global, developer-focused community events
  • Plan and carry out DevConf.cz, a large developer and community event in Brno
  • Design and deliver initiatives to grow communities
  • Maintain and improve onboarding materials for new employees
  • Participate in event planning and organization, attend events on behalf of projects, and help coordinate attendance of other associate
  • Develop and manage a budget
  • Participate in user and developer discussions and identify barriers to success for contributors and users
  • Report on community metrics and developments both internally and externally
  • Create and implement a community promotion strategy; prepare publicity materials like blog posts, podcasts, and videos and support other members of the community in the creation of publicity materials

  • Solid understanding of open source software
  • Good written and verbal language skills in English and Czech
  • Record of creating, documenting, and carrying out, or helping to carry out plans; record of getting buy-in
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks according to their short- or long-term goal status
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Experience with open source developer communities, understanding of development processes and communities
  • Proven experience using social media tools to promote plans and communities
  • Proven ability to work across teams in an organization to help meet multiple expectations
  • Experience running in-person events
