Help us become the defining technology company of the 21st century. Red Hat's Public Sector Consulting team is looking for a Platform Consultant to join us. In this role, you will work to enable strategic success of our customers using Red Hat's open source software, partnering with our customers to build excellent software systems of tomorrow. You will guide the adoption of Red Hat's solutions throughout our federal enterprise accounts, government agencies, and service provider partners. Through a series of both in-person and remote interactions, you'll win the trust and confidence of customer engineering, development, and operations teams by aligning their requirements and use cases with the functional capabilities of our solutions. You'll play a critical role in bringing together Red Hat's product business, product engineering, support, professional services, and sales teams to meet the needs of our most demanding customers. You'll serve as a customer advocate with these organizations, helping to architect the right solutions and ensuring that these solutions are implemented and supported in an innovative and reliable way. As a Platform Consultant, you'll need to have thorough expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 and also a solid foundation in Red Hat’s KVM technology. You should also have experience with Red Hat Satellite 6. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.


  • Become a respected Red Hat's subject matter expert at the customer site, addressing customer technical, development, and strategic IT requirements
  • Use your critical thinking skills to tackle tough problems in an innovative way
  • Help define overall system architectures and manage software specification, design, testing, and deployment of open source solutions
  • Serve as a trusted advisor at the customer site and assist the project or technical managers in setting and delivering on expectations
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of industry practices and thorough project experience and training
  • Respond to incidents, escalations, and exceptions in a professional manner
  • Perform weekly security patching using Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Automate tasks using Red Hat Ansible Automation
  • Assist with the administration of Red Hat Openshift Container Platform

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system security, system deployment, and system administration
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with Linux kernel internals, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, bug fix updates, and core builds
  • Experience working directly with enterprise stakeholders on projects
  • Experience providing technical leadership and persuasion skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including analytical, organizational, and issue resolution
  • Ability to study on your own and quickly learn and put into practice new topics
  • Passion for open source software
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification or willingness to pursue certification
  • Active Top Secret clearance

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
  • Experience with Red Hat Virtualization Platform
  • Experience with Red Hat Identity Management (IdM) Platform
  • Security+ certification
  • Department of Homeland Security (DHS) clearance and Entry On Duty suitability
