Role overview:

Tes Global is the world's largest professional network for teachers. We are seeking a hands-on, Principal Engineer to lead our Content squad, the team behind Tes News and a number of education related microsites, which receive over 7 million views per day.

As Principal, you will report to the VP of Engineering, be the key interface between the Content squad and wider Tes engineering community and work closely with the product owner to refine, prioritise and communicate requirements.

Since this is a hands-on role, you will be responsible for the software design and development of Tes' CMS platform (a combined Drupal / Node.js microservice architecture), ensuring it continues to meet the changing requirements of the business and driving towards providing content management as a service. You will also work with Tes' platform team, defining the future devops strategy.

However, the most important aspect of your role is to enable delivery through your squad members. To achieve this you will strive to appreciate their strengths and potential, providing technical expertise when needed, but also the autonomy essential for personal development and job satisfaction. You will further support your team members career growth through mentoring and regular performance reviews.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Three or more years leading software engineering teams
  • Substantial solution design and architecture experience
  • Understanding of PHP, related development practices and Drupal
  • Great interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • A practical approach to Agile methods
  • Familiarity with Node.js a bonus!
