About Abstract
Abstract is a design workflow platform for teams to version, manage, and collaborate on Sketch files. Our company’s mission is to dramatically improve the productivity, transparency and impact of Design. Since launching in July 2017, over 5,000 design teams across 75 countries have adopted Abstract, including teams from Cisco, Intuit, Salesforce, Instacart, OpenTable, and more.

At Abstract, we are actively working to build a diverse and inclusive organization. Here, diversity includes age, economic class, educational background, ethnic variance, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, national origin, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, or veteran status.

Abstract is headquartered in San Francisco but many of our teams and roles are remote-first (US-based only at this time). If you have a passion for rolling up your sleeves, building new programs, and have a strong, team-player mentality, we’d love to hear from you!

About The Role
As a Product Designer you’ll operate as a design generalist, owning problems from beginning to end: translating research insights into ideas that form new features, then designing the workflows and detailed interactions to bring those ideas to life. You’ll bring design research best practices to the table and lead research efforts for your focus area.

What you’ll do:
  • Gather and prioritize key user and product questions.
  • Establish tools and processes to share research insights with the broader team.
  • Keep your fellow Product Design teammates up to date with findings and trending insights.
  • Facilitate a range of research methodologies (interviews, contextual inquiries, concept testing, usability testing, analytics, journey mapping, etc).
  • Collaborate and share with your fellow design teammates, embracing open design.
  • Partner with product and engineering to determine strategy and direction.
  • Explore concepts with low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes all the way through to pixel-perfect comps.
  • Work closely with engineering to ensure fidelity and quality of the finished product.
  • Advocate and champion for the needs of Abstract’s customers along every step of the way.

What you’ll bring:
  • 3+ years of experience working with in-house design teams at fast-growing companies.
  • Experience synthesizing and communicating research findings with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to new information in a dynamic space.
  • Experience designing and shipping digital tools and complex systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design research and translate insights into action.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, often wearing multiple hats.

As part of the interview process, be prepared to present a portfolio of your previous work. We’re particularly excited to see how you apply empathy, user research and user-centered thinking to solve complex design problems. We look forward to meeting you!
