Job Description
 
Product Owner
 
The Product Owner is responsible for leading the implementation and adoption of proprietary, customer-facing applications at Palmetto Clean Technology. This position understands, defines, and prioritizes business and customer needs to deliver the best possible applications capable of enabling lean and efficient business practices. The Product Owner will collaborate with key business stakeholders to provide customer value frequently by translating software features into technical requirements (Features and Stories), maintaining the product vision, and utilizing Agile Scrum based methodologies. This role serves as the voice of the customer to the Palmetto Technology Team by maintaining and prioritizing product backlogs to ensure the team is delivering stories that maximize business value and deliver necessary fixes and functionality to all customers. The Product Owner will be responsible for defining scope, maintaining the release plan, and providing constant customer feedback.
 
Strategic:
 
-Understand the software development process end-to-end.
-Work with Portfolio, Program, and Delivery Teams to ensure the quality and timely, iterative delivery of Initiatives, Features, User Stories, bug fixes, and more.
-Working with contractor design & development resources and/or internal resources, lead the team to quality and timely delivery of the value through iterative Product releases.
-This requires moving from the tactical [(writing functional requirements through User Stories and Acceptance Criteria as well as providing final validation and sign-off (UAT)] to the strategic (overall planning and proper allocation of team resources).
-Based on scoped requirements, work with the team to produce effort estimates which can be translated using historical data into realistic timetables and Product Roadmaps.
-Hold the team and yourself accountable for deliverables by effectively communicating product vision, business and customer value, and the Who-What-Why, not the How.
-Research current solutions in the marketplace within our industry that address similar problems, and also research solutions within other industry verticals that can be applied to the problem(s) we are trying to solve.
-Lead the team internally towards adoption of the Product. This includes getting buy-in from stakeholders, developing and hosting necessary training for stakeholders (especially Account Managers and Business Development Managers), developing collateral for Sales and Marketing use, and on occasion going on “Road Shows” to ensure satellite teams also understand and adopt the Product.
-Be the voice of the customer - audit users’ experience with the Product to optimize that experience, provide customer value, and analyze customer feedback to adjust the Product Roadmap as necessary.
-Own the Product Vision, communicate it clearly and effectively to the Deliver Team as well as the Portfolio Team and senior leadership.
-Plan Program Increments with the Portfolio, Program, and Delivery Teams to create a long-term Product Roadmap forecasts for upcoming quarters.
-Collaborate with Level 1 Support to understand the pain points of the customer and address them accordingly in the Product. Learn the business inside and out -- be the Subject Matter Expert (“SME”) for the Delivery Team.
-Use this knowledge of the business to build Products to solve internal and external problems.
-In coordination with the Product Managers and the Directors of Product, communicate key decisions to the CTO; make a recommendation based on options, and clearly indicate dependencies.
 
Tactical:
 
-Write effective and clear User Stories and Feature/Epics including clear and thorough Acceptance Criteria for the development team and UX designers.
-Manage the Product Backlog effectively; exercise sound judgment on product-related decision.
-Prepare reports, memos, and any other necessary documentation regarding the status, operation and maintenance of the software (down to the ticket-level).
-Attend, participate in, and, when necessary, drive all Sprint Events (Daily Stand-up, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective).
-Perform final user acceptance testing (UAT) to validate and sign-off of deliverables; you own the quality of the Product at the end of the day and must be accountable for what is delivered.
-Collaborate effectively with the Delivery Team to refine stories, get effort estimates, communicate the Product Vision.
 
Position Specific:
-Exercise ‘Extreme Ownership’ for this Product.
-Everything that happens under his Product’s umbrella, you are empowered and accountable for it.
-Lead customer value, business value, and adoption of this Product.
-Focus on realizing the intended Return on Investment for this Product.
-Plan as far out as possible; maintain a rolling 90-Day Roadmap of well-scoped features that have been approved by the Program Team and Portfolio Team.
-Focus on improving the ease of use for all Products for several different customer types, know that the audience will soon be broader and less familiar with solar and solar software platforms.
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
-At least 5+ years serving as a Product Owner/Manager of a SaaS product. End to end product management experience.
-Minimum of 5+ years working in Information Technology, Product Management, and/or Software Delivery.
-Experience using Jira or equivalent software as a project management tool.
-Experience delivering software products through all stages of the Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC), specifically working in an Agile team environment in the software as a service (SaaS) market.A thorough knowledge of technology trends and an in depth understanding customer market analysis.
-Expert oral and written communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise, and detail Functional Requirements based on the business needs of a variety of different customers as well as train and present information to key stakeholders.
-Must be able to collaborate and work with various types of team members effectively across multiple cross-functional projects - managing dependencies is very important.
Possesses an eagerness to empower as well as inspire commitment and positive attitude in the team.
-Outstanding leadership and motivational skills.
-Above all else the ability to own the Product, own the work, and own the continuous improvement of not just the team but also of yourself; A willingness to acknowledge and accept mistakes and work to ensure the team and you learn from those mistakes.
-Legally able to work in the US.
 
Preferred Requirements:
-Experience in UX Design and Business Analysis.
-Experience with Mobile Applications (iOS, Android, and PWA).
-Experience working in Agile transformation and scaling.
-Knowledge of Lean strategies and process improvement.
