Role Description:

Salesforce.com is looking to hire Database Engineer to join the Database Service Reliability team with CRM Infra Engineering Cloud. Working closely with counterparts in the Infrastructure, R&D organizations and Site Reliability Teams, this organization provides a global team of engineers monitoring production database service availability and ready to swiftly interact with any service-impacting issues. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, in a follow-the-sun model, the Database Service Reliability team keeps the Salesforce cloud and our customers protected.

As a Database Engineer, you will enjoy the challenge of solving complex database performance issues in a large scale OLTP environment. This is an opportunity with a cutting edge team focused on continuous availability via service resiliency, destructive testing and self-healing implementations. The Engineer in this role must be capable of earning the respect of the organization and team alike by demonstrating strong collaboration skills, effective communication, and technical ability. He or she will represent the Database Cloud/Database Service Reliability organization in cross-functional meetings and help drive decisions related to our database platform procedures and processes. The role will be part of a mission critical team responsible for managing all the Salesforce production based databases, in a 24x7x365 environment. Key to this position will be a focus on incident management, process automation in a secure, high-performance, highly available, and fully resilient infrastructure across multiple data centers and geographical regions.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility and accountability for the availability and reliability of all Production Databases.
  • Working with other Engineering teams to triage issues.
  • Perform complex root cause Analysis of problems and subsequently, make and implement recommendations to prevent future occurrences or customer impact.
  • Define, develop and deploy system monitoring requirements/thresholds as well as corrective actions. Improve the system reliability via predictive analysis.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and enhance automation to reliably manage the platform infrastructure.
  • Designing, scaling out services in our multi-tenant infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with and provide detailed feedback to internal/External Database cloud stakeholders on resiliency initiatives.
  • To Participate in production Incident Management / Escalation Management call and be able to drive the incident to resolution.
  • Provides technical and platform support to multiple customers and stakeholders that use the production systems.
  • Provide support as a member of the DSR Team on weekends as part of a rotational shift

Requirements :

  • Must be US Citizen
  • BS Degree in Computer Science or Technical Field
  • 2+ years professional development experience and capable of developing and implementing DevOps best practices.
  • 2+ years Oracle database engineering skills (11g/12c) to include database infrastructure (Oracle RAC, Linux, SAN and Network) and database concepts (SQL, PL/SQL).
  • Strong Technical skill on Oracle RAC administration and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Strong Technical skill on Oracle ASM and advanced troubleshooting.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Oracle RDBMS HA solutions.å
  • Hands on operation of Data Guard failover and switchover and troubleshooting .
  • Hands on Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
  • Hands on experience in dealing with Database Corruptions issue, Rman Backup, restores and recoveries.
  • Ability to learn quickly and deliver high quality code in a fast-paced, agile team environment.
  • Experience on programming languages, able to automate routine DBA tasks.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical documentation skills
  • Experience providing Production Operations support 7x24x365
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment.
  • Good understanding of Storage and SAN technology.

Desire to Have:

  • Ability to learn quickly and deliver high quality code in a fast-paced, agile team environment.
  • Experience in administering PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with GitHub, Python, Java and other database tools.
