Senior Manager, Donor Retention

Summary:

The Senior Manager of Donor Retention is responsible for the strategic direction and execution of the ASPCA’s mid-level giving program, focusing on donors with gifts $500 – $10,000. They will also assist the Director of Donor Retention with improving revenue and retention metrics across the full one-time giving Membership file by implementing and managing donor campaigns in various channels, including direct mail and telemarketing. Additionally, they will oversee the donor acknowledgement and onboarding strategy to support one-time retention goals.

Nearly all ASPCA programs are funded through donations. This role represents an exciting opportunity to support our mission by ensuring we have the necessary funding to continue our fight against animal cruelty and homelessness.

This is a remote based position that can be completed from a home office anywhere in the United States. Preference will be given to candidates able to work from the ASPCA’s 8th Avenue location in New York City.

Responsibilities:

Mid-Level Giving Strategy & Execution (60%)

  • Work with Senior Director and Director to develop and implement annual multichannel mid-level retention strategy in line with organizational growth goals
  • Track and report on KPIs related to mid-level donor value and retention
  • Develop and maintain annual budget(s) related to mid-level giving strategy across channels
  • Maintain weekly calls with key partners focused on review of past performance and investment adjustments
  • Analyze mid-level donor data to establish donor groupings for personalization, recognition, upgrade and cultivation strategies
  • Collaborate with Member Communications and Operations/Analytics teams to ensure that recommended mid-level giving strategies and tactics are efficient, achievable and scalable

Donor Retention Campaign Coordination & Execution (30%)

  • Support the Director in reviewing and approving mail plans and counts for the larger house file campaigns
  • Give input on ideas for data testing, cultivation and retention tactics for the house campaigns
  • Oversee the donor acknowledgement and follow-up communication series, updating as necessary to align with overall retention strategies

Team Management (10%)

  • Manage and oversee development of the Manager, Honor & Memorial Giving and Manager, Donor Retention
  • Perform annual performance reviews and monitor progress toward individual goals throughout the year
  • Focus on developing team members’ soft and hard skills with a goal of elevating performance through active, actionable feedback
  • Collaborate with larger Development team and other staff in the organization in ways that support the ASPCA’s core values
  • Develop and guide the Donor Retention team in support of the ASPCA’s core values

Qualifications:

Ability to develop and follow through on creative and effective solicitation strategies and to generate enthusiasm for them among team members, Commitment to goal attainment, high degree of initiative, and ability to motivate and engage high level volunteers and donors, Demonstrated ability to work with high degree of autonomy and accountability and to be a team player, Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively and professionally with many levels of staff to build productive relationships, Excellent time management and prioritization skills, Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising principles and practices; knowledge of annual giving/direct mail, print production, telemarketing, joint allocation of funds, and basic analytical principals
