WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THIS POSITION?

The Hartford currently has an in-house opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout Dallas/Tarrant and surrounding counties. This position will allow the ideal candidate to work remotely while traveling as needed within Dallas and Tarrant County to handle general liability, auto and tort cases. This Sr. Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. They will reporting to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney. This position is an ideal fit for an experienced Attorney with relevant trial experience. The selected candidate will demonstrate the ability to independently handle cases and have a passion for mentoring others. Additional key responsibilities include:
  • Independently and aggressively defend a full caseload of tort, auto and general liability cases
  • Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, and independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients
  • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies
  • Provide effective and timely information, legal advice, and other services, in a technology driven environment, to clients and claim representatives on legal and factual issues
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures
  • Independently work and resolve litigation promptly, efficiently, and effectively
  • Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain a high level of professional expertise
  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of Texas (upon hire)
  • Member in good standing of applicable Bar Association
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience (preferably within the insurance defense industry dealing with tort and general liability)
  • First chair jury trial experience required
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a must
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
  • Knowledge of local court system within assigned region is strongly preferred!
  • A pool or fleet car may be provided and a valid driver’s license is required

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME?
  • The ideal candidate will live and work remotely within the north central Texas region (Dallas or Fort Worth territory)
  • In-state travel within the jurisdiction is required approximately 25' of the time.
