Software Developer / Team Lead
Location: Chicago, ILDepartment: Software Development
Type: Full TimeMin.
Experience: Experienced
Packback is looking for a Software Developer / Team Lead to support our mission to awaken and fuel the lifelong curiosity in every student. As a software engineer at Packback, you will be building features that empower students and professors to have a better learning experience.
Packback’s A.I.-powered platform is used by college professors to help their students fall in love with the subject matter, drive personalized learning, and most importantly, quantify and improve student critical thinking skills.
Key job duties include communicating well, providing thoughtful feedback to teammates, pairing, actively improving our team knowledge-base, and of course, writing code. You’ll be collaborating with our product team to design and implement new features, tackling bugs and tech debt, and incrementally improving our infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline.
Why You Should Work at Packback
Reach - Our platform, Packback Questions, is used by thousands of professors, and hundreds of thousands of college students, who collectively author millions of posts per semester.  You will be a part of building a platform that has a huge impact on inspiring curiosity in students.
Training - We offer opportunities for learning and mentorship. We value people who like to wear many hats. You can get involved with the front end, back end, infrastructure and data functions.
Ownership - Packback is a rapidly growing company. You will have responsibility for bringing innovative features to market while working closely with the product team.
Requirements
We’re looking for somebody who is excited to both work on our codebase as well as run a team. To succeed, you need:
* 3+ years of software engineering experience with web-based products. Transferable experience is more important than years of experience.
* Interest in leading day-to-day operations for the team in an agile environment, mentoring junior engineers, and implementing process improvements.
* Experience includes gathering requirements, designing technical solutions, tracking progress, and ultimately delivering technical projects.

Additionally, we’re looking for:
* Experience working with web frameworks and a cloud-based infrastructure. (We use Angular, Laravel, Django and Kubernetes, but care mainly that you are a great developer.)
* Familiarity with software best practices (automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, peer code review, documentation, accessibility).

It’s great if you have:
* Familiarity with Angular and Angular JS
* Comfort with Linux/UNIX systems
* Open-source contributions with a variety of technologies
* Startup or small company experience
