The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineering Intern focused on Red Hat Ceph Storage, which is an open source project and a large-scale, world-class software-defined storage technology. In this role, you will get an exciting opportunity to help define and develop cloud storage infrastructure. You’ll work on Red Hat Ceph Storage, which is based on object storage technology at its core and supports file, block, and S3-compatible object protocols. Red Hat Ceph Storage is also a very dynamic open source project, contributed to by many hundreds of developers world-wide. As a Software Engineering Intern, you will help Red Hat Ceph Storage integrate into the Kubernetes ecosystem via the Rook project, which is an existing technology to deploy and manage storage platforms.


  • Make code contributions in Red Hat Ceph Storage or Rook; this involves learning Git and the build and test process and being involved in code reviews
  • Perform architecture and performance analyses, which can involve working cross-functionally with other teams
  • Participate in test and documentation development and other functions of a large, distributed open source project

  • University or college student in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, or physics, currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with 2+ years remaining before graduation
  • Familiarity with Linux systems
  • Familiarity with or interest in storage protocols like File, Block, or S3
  • Some experience with one of the languages like Golang, Python, Java, or C or C++
  • Motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
