The Red Hat OpenShift team is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join us in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will oversee development of the Operator SDK, which helps enable partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) to create outstanding operators on top of Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift. You'll direct feature development and work with product managers, software engineers, and the upstream community. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will manage and grow a high-performing, distributed engineering team.


  • Manage a distributed team of individual contributors working on the Operator SDK
  • Focus on containers, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift to help supervise the effort
  • Work with product management and engineering teams to develop technology roadmaps and schedules and communicate these schedules externally
  • Engage with the upstream community to establish and evolve the operator pattern
  • Work with cross-functional managers and teams on documentation, product management, and quality assurance (QA) to coordinate tasks necessary for releasing enterprise-quality software
  • Work with other engineering managers and teams to use existing technologies and implement improvements cohesively
  • Work to recruit new associates within the growing OpenShift team

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of significant software development experience
  • 2+ years of managing software developers and releases of offerings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with test-based development and agile or scrum methodologies
  • Understanding of open source development models and how the Linux community interacts
  • Prior participation in open source community software development or leadership is a plus
  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CoreOS, Fedora, Red Hat OpenShift, containers, and Kubernetes is a plus
