TaxJar’s remote-only team of 200+ people is growing quickly! We have an immediate need for a Tax Geography Engineer who wants to help us make eCommerce easier for everyone.
We are seeking an individual with a set of proficiencies that are uncommonly found together outside of the sales/use or property tax application realm. If you are a quick learner outside of the Tax space who can promptly fill in the gaps you would be a great fit for this role.
We are looking for someone who possesses the following:

- Experience and/or ability to work well remotely and asynchronously
- Experience in 2 or more of the below core components with at least 3+ years of work experience

Core Competencies:
Computer Science:
Computer Science:
- Experience with Python and Ruby/Rails to develop applications
- Experience with Python’s pandas library
- Python’s geopandas library and/or geodatabases experience is a plus
- SQL experience is a plus
- Sales Tax Subject Matter Knowledge:
- Foundational knowledge of basic sales/use tax concepts and jurisdictional structure
- Experience with tax engines, auditing, tax return preparation, etc. is a plus
- Ability to demonstrate intermediate to advanced capabilities with data applications such as Excel or Google Sheets
- Experience working with very large datasets
Geography:
- High degree of proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate fluid proficiency with geoprocessing tools such as spatial joins, tabular joins, merges, unions, clips, etc. to manage multiple layers of feature classes with a high degree of accuracy
- Some experience with using Python to automate tasks and workflows in conjunction with GIS software
- Experience working with very large datasets
- Familiarity with United States Postal Service (USPS) data conventions is a plus
