Lead Agile Delivery Manager (Enterprise Division)

Location: UK Remote - offices in Cardiff and London

Salary: £65,000 - £85,000 pa (inclusive of geographical weighting)

We are a collaborative bunch, and offer UK remote working options, however if you did want to pay us a visit, we have modern offices in both Cardiff and Shoreditch, London.

What You’ll do…

You’ll be working alongside our Sales Team, Consultants, Delivery Managers, Cloud Platform and Automation Engineers and Account Managers, as we help our customers succeed in the digital economy.

You will be working with our Enterprise customer base, who want to employ Cloud and DevOps principles, practices and technologies to accelerate their software delivery. We call this the game changing acceleration that unlocks productivity, creativity and competitive advantage. Your primary accountability will be to lead the delivery of customer value through collaborating with our customer stakeholders, leading and enabling your engineering squad(s) and working with the broader organisation to constantly optimise the flow of value to our customers.

Drawing on your broad knowledge of Enterprise organisations and their Project and Service Management practices and governance, together with your experience in delivering with Agile and DevOps principles in large enterprises, you will help our customers create and implement new strategic capabilities.

You will be involved in the full customer lifecycle from sales through to delivery and on to account development and expansion. You will be responsible for the line management and personal development of your squad. Your focus will be in delivering credible and tangible benefit for our customer thereby enable our business to sustainably grow.

Here’s how your first month will look…

  • Our People Team have provided you with everything you need to know during your induction
  • You are now using the laptop, kit and setup of your choice
  • You’ll dive straight into ceremonies and immerse yourself in learning about your customers
  • You’ll join many Zoom calls with both prospective and existing customers; shadowing engineers, consultants and other delivery managers to understand our approach to presales, discovery and planning, agile delivery management, operations and governance, and the day-to-day requirements of operating as a professional service
  • You’ll meet and work with our Customer Lifecycle team made up our sales, consulting and account management team
  • Your teammates will have bought you up to speed with their in-flight work, and you’ll get under the skin of our customers’ businesses and what they’re trying to achieve
  • You will have been trained in all of the tools you need to manage and monitor successful deliveries
  • We'll introduce you to the business strategy and you’ll start to see how you can contribute, beyond your customer work, to moving us forward as a business
  • You’ll attend your first DevOpsGroup Conference with updates on the company’s progress and strategy
  • As a new starter, the access to our knowledge base and support systems is coming in real handy
  • Any queries or concerns? These have been addressed and you’re more than ready for your DevOpsGroup future

By month three…

  • Your confidence has grown as you really start to form relationships with our customers at all levels of their business
  • With full support from your squad, you are now leading the delivery for one or two customers, maybe managing their migration into AWS or Azure from on-premises, or modernising their estate and architecture while uplifting the skills of their workforce
  • You’ve continued pairing with others in your squad and the Customer Lifecycle team on pre-sales and discovery engagements, and you’re now much more confident helping to shape the flow of work into your squad
  • You are contributing to the company’s strategy and objectives and feel comfortable creating your own
  • By now you are dealing with changing priorities and have a deep understanding of your key stakeholders
  • As you have full access to our DevOpsGroup Academy, you’ve probably completed some further certifications, such as the Agile and DevOps foundation or our Pragmatic Agile course
  • Perhaps you’ve got a thing or two wrong along the way, failure is an option at DevOpsGroup and is something we are always learning
  • You may be line managing some of your squad, with full support and training from our People Team and Line Management Community of Practice
  • Perhaps you are sharing your skills and expertise to help other members of the team to grow, supported by the Delivery Manager Community of Practice
  • You may have planned how you’ll be spending your training budget
  • You will be contributing to and influencing the direction and growth of the division, working with the wider leadership team
  • You may be coaching and guiding others drawing on your experience and what you have learnt at DevOpsGroup
  • You are now familiar with every member of the DevOpsGroup family and how the different teams support you in your role

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who…

  • Is an experienced leader with stakeholder and delivery management experience with a track record of success in a large organisation, with project, programme, service and contract management experience.
  • Has an understanding of or experience in professional services or consultancy
  • Loves working with customers and is passionate about truly understanding their needs and delivering to the highest standards
  • Enjoys running and facilitating workshops, senior stakeholder relationship meetings and project update reviews.
  • Has experience in developing customer proposals, investment business cases, establishing delivery roadmaps, delivering against milestone plans and demonstration of business benefits through metrics and stories
  • Has a passion for using data to improve visibility and the flow of work
  • Has strong leadership experience, enabling the team(s) to perform at their best
  • Is people-focused with experience in line management and people management skills
  • Is very organised and disciplined in their approach to work
  • Enjoys complexity and solving difficult problems
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills across all technical levels
  • Understands how to persuade and influence people at all levels within IT
  • Is a self-starter, comfortable working with remote teams and traveling to customer site (government and customer guidelines permitting)
  • Learns rapidly and loves to develop their skills
  • Has strong commercial understanding and experience with either selling or procuring IT services, working with enterprise procurement and legal teams

Key responsibilities…

· You will manage delivery for one or more of our strategic customers, delivering a portfolio of projects such as cloud migrations, cloud platform and pipeline builds or improvement work to existing cloud infrastructure and tooling, and improving workforce skills in engineering and Agile practices.

· You’ll be adept at delivering complex projects and evolving services, breaking down barriers for your team, both planning at a higher level and getting into the detail to make things happen when needed.

· Working with the wider team, you will influence the development sales proposals, solution roadmaps and business cases and be an active leader in communicating and collaborating with customers and partners to secure and deliver engagements, ensuring business benefits realisation

· You will establish and nurture senior customer relationships, building both rapport and trust, and working with our sales and consulting teams and the divisional director, you will seek opportunities to deliver additional value to our customers.

· You’ll be bold and proactive in recommending solutions and trade-offs to get back on track when things go wrong. You will take ownership of escalations and manage these accordingly, working with our account management team and the divisional director as appropriate.

· You will be an advocate for Agile delivery, and you’ll use appropriate Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) with your customers; leading Agile ceremonies, continually learning and iterating, and coaching others in Agile practices.

· You will be line-manager and leader for a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled team. You may become responsible for overseeing delivery across multiple teams.

· As part of the business, you will bring experience and best practice to influence the improvement of how we sell and deliver services to our customers

· You will lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process – prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of the team, balancing the interests of your customers, your team, and the business.

· You’ll manage your customers’ budgets and invoicing and will be responsible for accurately forecasting for each of your customers

· You’ll actively participate and contribute in the Delivery Manager community, sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge and bringing in best practice

 

The experience you’ll need…

Essential

  • Experience managing the delivery of a range of large scale IT projects and programmes, ideally with some experience of migrating from on-premises to AWS or Azure.
  • A high-level understanding of the software delivery lifecycle (SDLC) and cloud infrastructure so you can understand how things ‘fit together’
  • Experience of working in or working with professional service or consultancy companies
  • Deep understanding of the values and principles of Agile software development with experience working with teams that have practiced Agile delivery
  • Deep understanding of large organisation/enterprise project and service management and governance processes and how to adapt these /work within these with Agile practices, ideally in a highly regulated industry (e.g. Finance, Defence, Security)
  • Long track record in working within an enterprise environment with tangible successes
  • Able to align to a customer’s preferred planning where needed to get delivery done
  • Strong stakeholder management experience with a strong, mature and extensive network and a track record of building long-term strategic relationships
  • The ability to communicate and work well with development and operations teams, including third parties and partners
  • Confident in running workshops with customers and presenting using a wide range of tooling, both virtually and in-person.
  • The ability to write reports, presentations and business cases for customers, with good written, verbal and financial reasoning.
  • Ability to work alongside engineers, consultants and architects to manage multiple stakeholders and balance priorities and the team.
  • Must be comfortable working with multiple workstreams and customer projects in any given week and switching between pre-sales and project delivery work
  • A strong understanding of DevOps principles.
  • Background knowledge of how traditional IT delivery works, including physical datacentres, virtualisation, networking and storage.
  • Experience in contract development and management

Desirable

  • A background working in multi-vendor environments
  • Experience working in financial services
  • Experience with cloud migrations
  • Experienced in coaching teams in the adoption of Agile ways of working
  • Experience in developing business cases for migrating or modernising existing architecture
  • Previous experience working from home and managing remote teams
  • A high-level understanding of Azure and AWS, and potentially other cloud platforms
  • A high-level understanding of technologies that underpin a DevOps approach to cloud migration and management, including infrastructure as code, configuration management tools and pipeline tooling
